The Tech Nation Global Talent Visa has long been the golden ticket for tech professionals looking to relocate, innovate, and thrive in the UK’s booming digital economy. However, as of January 22, 2025, new guidelines have reshaped the endorsement process, making it crucial for applicants to understand the latest requirements and strategically position themselves for success.
If you’re an ambitious tech founder, software engineer, data scientist, or product manager, this visa could unlock unparalleled opportunities for you—but only if you meet the new criteria. 📌 What’s New in the 2025 Tech Nation Visa Guidelines?
1️⃣ Mandatory Criteria (MC) — better organization:
The endorsement process has become more selective, and applicants must now demonstrate real-world impact beyond just their job title. Here’s what’s changed:
✔️You must at least have two original records attesting to your either leading or potential brilliance in digital technology.
✔️Salary and equity by themselves are insufficient; you also have to demonstrate actual influence outside of your daily work.
✔️Emphasize how your ideas, plans, projects, or solutions won you the promotion or shares/bonuses—how you have generated the influence outside of your line of employment.
✔️Evidence has to originate from the past five years; anything developed expressly for your immigration application is invalid.
✔️Reviewing evidence pieces that occurred/took place/got published extremely near the submission date will therefore be subject to more scrutiny.
2️⃣Optional Criteria (OC) – Differentiates nothing?
🔹 OC1: Originality
✔️No substantial changes—but you still need to present proof of innovation (e.g., product development, proof of product in the market or distinctive technological contributions in the form of patents).
✔️If you are applying with your own startup – financial estimates, business strategies or articles of association are not adequate. Send formal accounts covering more than 12 months or, if none are available, audited accounts. The accounts should include P&L and balance sheet, signed by the directors of the company.
🔹OC2: Activities outside occupation
✔️Online activities (e.g., ADPList mentorships) are no longer sufficient.
✔️In-person engagements are more advantageous — consider on-stage keynote speeches, TV chats or in-person coaching.
✔️New categories added – forming interest groups (something new!), leading on policy and engaging in clubs/societies for the advancing of the area.
✔️All evidence supplied should be for voluntary activity (non-paid employment) and sponsorship by your employer or company (for conference participation, for example) is not allowed.
🔹 OC3: Impact
✔️Shares, stock, and bonuses are no longer valid under OC3 — these now fall under Mandatory Criteria. See Mandatory criterion section for details.
✔️The new focus? Revenue and financial proof. If you built anything, you need proof that it produced money. Submit amazing figures solely when it comes to downloads and users. Use commercial contracts, or confirmation letters from top team members confirming financial impact.
✔️Basically, Tech Nation wants to see financial success, not just industry effect.

New insights for your Tech Nation UK Global Talent visa application
1️⃣ Less is more – be selective with proof pieces
✔️Tech Nation reviewers are overworked, which means applications that are hard to read or overly complex are more likely to be rejected.
✔️They do not want to go through heaps of screenshots, links, or dense content.
✔️Limit screenshots to one or two per page.
✔️Cut out everything extraneous – choose your best evidence and leave everything else in your CV.
2️⃣ Additional Letters of Recommendation (LORs) are back in focus
✔️They used to phase these out 2-3 years ago, but now they matter again.
✔️A letter from an employer confirming your personal project efforts can boost your OC1 or OC2 proof —but it must be someone else, different from your 3 major referees.
3️⃣ Follow the new Notion-based guidelines
✔️The new Tech Nation Guidelines are hosted on Notion, not the old web version – the old version is still available online via Tech Nation’s website, so make sure you do NOT use it anymore. Check the Change Log section for the exact modifications they are making. Here is the link to the updated guidelines again.
