Introduction
When Amarachi Johnson finally got that email saying her UK Global Talent Visa had been endorsed. She just smiled. A soft, knowing smile that said, “Wow… it worked.”
Her journey wasn’t loud or dramatic. It was layered with quiet consistency, a lot of second-guessing, and the courage to try anyway.
Today, she lives in the UK—earning in pounds, working remotely, and waking up each day to a life she once thought was far away. This is the real story of how she got there.
Who Is Amarachi?
Amarachi is someone who loves community. Tech wasn’t even her first plan. She started off volunteering at events, helping out, organizing programs, and just being present. That passion slowly pulled her into frontend development, where she picked up new skills and began contributing in bigger ways.
Through She Code Africa(empowering African girls and women in Digital Skills), she found her rhythm. That experience opened doors, gave her structure, and helped her discover what she loved: building safe spaces and helping people grow.
Step by step, she grew—into leadership, into global roles, and eventually, into someone who looked at the Global Talent Visa and said, maybe… maybe I can.
How She Found Out About the Visa
In 2022, Amarachi was living in Cameroon with her family. One day, she stumbled on a post about the Global Talent Visa. She had seen it before but never clicked. This time, she did.
She read everything. Visited the website. Watched a YouTube video. Joined a live session. “That’s when I started thinking maybe I could give it a try,” she said.
She Almost Didn’t Apply
Even after reading all the requirements and seeing how her work aligned, Amarachi still had doubts. “Am I good enough?” “Do I have what they’re looking for?” “What if I don’t make it?”
And then came comparison—the thief of joy and confidence. She looked at other people’s applications and started second-guessing everything she had done.
At some point, she decided to let it go. She was tired. She closed her laptop. “I gave up,” she said.
But not for long.
Then She Tried Again
Weeks passed. But the idea wouldn’t leave her. So she opened a blank document, wrote down her experiences, and started piecing her story together.
She listed her contributions, picked her referees carefully, and took it one small step at a time. It wasn’t perfect. But it was honest.
She kept going. Through fear, through doubt, through the stress of gathering evidence and wondering if it would be enough.
And then—endorsement.
Her Advice to You
“Just start,” Amarachi says. “Even if it’s not perfect. Open a Google Doc, write everything you’ve done, and go from there.”
She reminds us that your story doesn’t have to trend to be valid. Your work doesn’t have to be loud to be valuable. “Document it. Own it. Don’t downplay the work you’ve done just because it doesn’t feel big enough.”
And if you’re still unsure? “Ask for help. Learn from others. You’re not alone.”
Where She Is Now
Today, Amarachi is in the UK.
She’s still doing what she loves. Still building. Still helping people grow. But now, she does it with more confidence and peace.
Her story didn’t change overnight. It grew over years. Quietly. Faithfully. And now it’s shining.

“I Didn’t Think I Was Ready”: Amarachi’s Journey to the UK Global Talent Visa
Introduction
Amarachi Johnson didn’t celebrate loudly when she saw the endorsement email. No shouting. No backflips. Just a quiet smile—and a deep breath. The kind of breath you take when your whole life is about to change.
She had doubted herself many times. Paused. Walked away. Came back. But through it all, she kept moving—until the day her “maybe” turned into “yes.”
Now, she’s living in the UK. Working remotely. Earning in pounds. And walking a path she almost convinced herself she wasn’t ready for.
Who Is Amarachi?
Before the visa. Before the UK. Amarachi was simply someone who loved showing up for people.
She started with volunteering—coordinating, helping, organizing tech spaces. She later picked up frontend development and leaned fully into community building. Her heart was always drawn to the people-side of tech: making things work for others, building safe spaces, and supporting growth.
Her work with She Code Africa helped structure that passion into something tangible. From there, she moved into international roles, and eventually became a Community Operations Manager at ConsenSys.
She didn’t set out to chase visas. She just did the work.
How She Found Out About the Visa
In 2022, while living with her family in Cameroon, Amarachi stumbled across something online. The UK Global Talent Visa. She had seen the name before but never paid it much attention.
This time, she clicked.
What she found made her curious. She read through the criteria, watched YouTube videos, and joined a live session. And for the first time, a quiet thought slipped in: “What if I actually qualify?”
When Doubt Crept In
As she started gathering information, another voice crept in—the loud, familiar one: “You’re not good enough.”
She saw stories of people who looked more experienced, more decorated. She wondered if her work was enough, if she had the right kind of evidence, if the people reviewing her application would see the value in what she’d done.
At one point, she shut everything down. Closed her laptop. Walked away.
“I gave up,” she said.
The Turning Point
But something wouldn’t let go. After a while, she opened a blank document and began writing. One project. One article. One community contribution at a time.
She wasn’t chasing perfection—just trying to be honest.
Slowly, the pieces came together: her referees, her documents, her confidence. She reviewed the guidelines again and again, checking if her story aligned.
Until one day—it did.
Her Advice to You
“Start. Even if it feels small. Even if you’re not sure,” Amarachi says.
She believes many people already have what they need—they just haven’t paused long enough to see it.
“Open a Google Doc and start writing. List what you’ve done. Don’t wait until it feels impressive. Just be honest.”
And if you’re still unsure? “Ask for help. Learn from others. You’re not alone.”
Where She Is Now
Today, Amarachi is living and working in the UK. Still building. Still growing. But now, with more peace and clarity.
Going through the Global Talent Visa process didn’t just get her to the UK—it helped her see the weight of her own journey.
She didn’t get lucky. She got clear.
